A Perfect Day (Un Giorno Perfetto)

  • Official Competition, Venice Film Festival 2008

“It would be a rare American filmmaker who would end what is essentially a domestic thriller on a mystical and ever-so-slightly ambiguous note. But that is simply brilliant. Moreover, it bespeaks a slightly different slant on reality and existence, which is precisely one of the great values of seeing foreign films.”
San Francisco Chronicle

Directed by Ferzan Ozpetek and starring Isabella Ferrari and Valerio Mastandrea, A PERFECT DAY is a blistering tale of the lengths to which we can be driven by a broken heart.

One year after their separation, the brutality that defined Emma and Antonio’s marriage returns to the heart of the family with ferocious consequences. Meanwhile, Antonio’s boss, MP Fioravanti tries frantically to salvage his political career, unaware he is destroying his personal life by pushing his young wife to desert him, having already alienated his only son. On this perfect day, Emma, Antonio, Elio and Maja challenge the cards which they have been dealt and try to regain control of their lives. Even if it means performing an unspeakable act of betrayal against those they love the most.
