This longstanding custom forces the boy into virtual house arrest along with the other male members of the family, suddenly derailing his future. The family becomes increasingly dependent on their daughter who unexpectedly finds herself obliged to help manage its affairs. While his sister flourishes in her newfound responsibility, the boy begins to develop a rebellious streak and becomes increasingly desperate to find an end to his confinement.
