Matteo Garrone's GOMORRA has swept the board at the 2008 European Film Awards.

The film, which won the Grand Prix at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, was produced by the Italian production company Fandango, with whom Portobello runs the Fandango Portobello sales company.

It was honoured with five awards at the ceremony held in Copenhagen:

  • European Film 2008
  • European Director 2008 - Matteo Garrone
  • European Actor 2008 - Toni Servillo (also for IL DIVO)
  • European Screenwriter 2008 - Maurizio Braucci, Ugo Chiti, Gianni di Gregorio, Matteo Garrone, Massimo Gaudioso & Roberto Saviano
  • Carlo Di Palma European Cinematography Award 2008 - Marco Onorato

Based on Roberto Saviano’s explosive exposé on the Camorra, the Neapolitan mafia, the film interweaves five different stories looking at those whose lives are affected by the crime syndicate.

The film is also Italy's chosen nominee for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film 2008.
