Isango Portobello is pleased to announce that it will be premiering a new version of Mark Dornford-May’s celebrated production of THE MYSTERIES this June, at the Baxter Theatre Centre, Cape Town.

A spectacular African retelling of the Chester cycle of Medieval English mystery plays, the production uses music, dance and drama to breath new life into these classic stories.

Directed by Mark Dornford-May, with music direction from Charles Hazlewood, the first production of YIIMIMANGALISO – THE MYSTERIES played London’s Wilton’s music hall to great acclaim.

The Observer newspaper called the production “The most magnificent and moving event of the year”, while the Evening Standard wrote “It is impossible not to be swept away by this dramatic dynamite. Each story is a miracle of energy, invention and humour”.

The company, which will include Pauline Malefane, are currently in rehearsal for this production. Watch this space for confirmed dates and information on how to book tickets.
